Claire Fontaine is a qualitative educational researcher, currently at Data & Society Research Institute, and an educational consultant. Her research examines the ways online platforms shape educational decision-making, mediate learning, and produce or preclude senses of belonging and inclusion.

Since 2002, she has collaborated with schools, community organizations, after-school programs, universities, and nonprofits to build human and organizational capacity to support disadvantaged young people in New York City and to support young people’s efforts to effect social change.

She earned a PhD in Urban Education from the CUNY Graduate Center in 2015.
